Ingredient Disclosures
What does "HEMA-Free" mean?
HEMA (2-Hydroxyethyl Methacrylate) is a monomer commonly used in gel nail products. It is one of the most frequently cited causes of contact sensitization (allergic reactions) in nail-product users and salon professionals.
Products labeled HEMA-Free do not contain HEMA in their formula.
Important: HEMA-free does not mean allergy-free or reaction-free. All gel nail products contain methacrylate chemistry. Individuals can develop sensitivities to any methacrylate, including alternatives to HEMA. If you have a known sensitivity to nail products or acrylates, consult a qualified medical professional or dermatologist before use.
What is HPMA and is it in Drip Lab products?
HPMA (Hydroxypropyl Methacrylate) is a methacrylate monomer that is sometimes used as a HEMA alternative in HEMA-free gel formulas. It offers similar bonding properties but carries its own sensitization potential with repeated or prolonged skin exposure.
Where HPMA is present in a Drip Lab product, it will be disclosed in that product's ingredient list or description. Always check the individual product listing for the most accurate and up-to-date ingredient information.

What is TPO and is it in Drip Lab products?
TPO (Diphenyl(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)phosphine oxide) is a photoinitiator — a chemical that triggers the curing (hardening) reaction when the gel is exposed to UV or LED light. Some customers and professionals seek TPO-free products due to personal preference or sensitivity concerns.
Products within our HEMA-Free collections are formulated to be TPO-free. Where this claim applies, it is stated directly in the product listing. Always refer to the individual product page for current formula information, as formulations can be updated.
Are Drip Lab gels safe for sensitive skin or known allergy sufferers?
All gel nail products — including HEMA-free and TPO-free formulas — contain methacrylate chemistry and are intended for use on the nail plate only, not on skin.
We cannot make medical claims or guarantee that any product is safe for a specific individual. Skin Contact & Safe Application
Why must gel polish avoid skin contact?
Repeated or prolonged contact between uncured gel and the skin is the primary route of methacrylate sensitization. Once sensitized, a person may react to gel products for life — even at very low concentrations. This is why application technique matters as much as formula.
- Apply gel 2–3 mm away from the cuticle and free edge skin.
- If gel floods the skin, wipe it away immediately with a clean brush or orangewood stick before curing.
- Never cure gel that is touching skin.
- Wear nitrile gloves when handling bulk product or performing multiple services.
- Wash hands thoroughly after any skin contact with uncured product.
What should I do if I experience irritation or a reaction?
If you experience redness, itching, swelling, or any other reaction during or after application:
- Remove the product immediately using the appropriate removal method for gel polish.
- Wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and water.
- Do not continue applying the product.
- Seek guidance from a qualified medical professional or dermatologist — especially if symptoms persist or worsen.

Curing Guide
What lamp type is compatible with Drip Lab gel polishes?
Drip Lab gel polishes are formulated to cure under professional-grade LED or UV/LED combination lamps. A lamp with a minimum output of 36 watts is recommended for full, even polymerization.
Lower-wattage lamps may result in under-cured product, which can cause lifting, poor wear, and — critically — increased risk of skin sensitization from uncured monomers remaining in the gel film.
What are the recommended cure times?
Cure times can vary by lamp brand, lamp age, and the specific product used. As a general guideline for our gel polishes:
- LED lamp (36W+): 30–60 seconds per coat
- UV/LED combo lamp (36W+): 60 seconds per coat
Always follow the specific cure times listed on individual product pages or product packaging. When in doubt, add 15–30 seconds — over-curing a properly applied gel is generally preferable to under-curing.
Note: Gel polishes that are under-cured may feel tacky, lift prematurely, or cause skin sensitivity from uncured product. If you are using an older lamp or a lamp that has never been tested, consider having it checked or replacing the bulbs.
Why does full curing matter for safety?
Incomplete curing leaves free monomers in the gel film. These uncured monomers can penetrate the nail plate and contact the nail bed and surrounding skin, dramatically increasing sensitization risk. Proper curing is a safety issue, not just a performance issue.
- Use a quality, correctly wattaged lamp.
- Replace lamp bulbs per manufacturer guidelines (typically every 6–12 months for UV bulbs; LED bulbs have longer lifespans but should still be tested).
- Cure each coat individually — do not stack uncured layers.
- Ensure your hand or foot is positioned correctly inside the lamp for even exposure.
A Note for Nail Professionals
If you are a nail technician or salon professional: occupational exposure to methacrylates is cumulative. Even HEMA-free products carry sensitization risk under repeated professional-use conditions. We strongly recommend using nitrile gloves during all gel services, working in a well-ventilated space, and staying current with industry safety guidance from bodies such as the Nail Industry or your regional occupational health authority.
